Digital Video Recording

There are 4 basic types of DVR (digital video recorder)

1) Stand Alone or None Windows DVR – These are proprietary machines purpose built for the capture and transmission of multiplexed video signals. These machines are robust in construction and are very reliable. They can serve video over a TCP/IP network allowing remote access to the archive and live video. By adding accessories such as joystick keyboard and matrix a very sophisticated control room for many camera inputs can be built up very easily. This when compared with Analogue solutions from the past. The most common and efficient compression algorithm for video and audio storage is MPEG-4. Example VXM4-4.

2) Windows (IBM) Based DVR – These machines take advantage of the very fast and efficient processing power of a modern Pentium 4 personal computer to which a multi channel video capture card/s are installed. These cards convert the PC into a Digital video and audio recorder. Conversion kits or cards are available providing 4, 8, 12, 16 or 24 channels. Searching for archive video is very simple and very fast using basic mouse commands. Example DIVA-EX.   more>>
